Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an aesthetician make?
•The average salary for an aesthetician in TN is approximately $43,000 annually..
Where do aestheticians most commonly work?
•Aestheticians can work in a variety of settings including salons, spas, dermatology or plastic surgery offices. Many aestheticians are also self employed and own their own business. Suite rentals has become a popular way that aestheticians can build their own brand at a very affordable rate. Mobile businesses are also an exciting way that aestheticians excel. You will even find aestheticians in the fashion, theater, or bridal industry offering professional make up application.
What types of procedures do aestheticians perform?
•Facials are still a staple of the aesthetician’s role, but they can offer many more services! Microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and Dermaplaning are also very popular. Some choose to specialize in a particular skill and will market themselves as lash and brow technicians, waxing specialists, spray tan or make up artists.

What is the difference in an aesthetician and an aesthetic nurse?
•An aesthetician receives their license under the TN board of Cosmetology, while a nurse is governed by the TN board of Nursing. To become a nurse, one typically goes to college for a minimum of 2 years (associates degree); an aesthetic nurse indicates that the registered nurse has additional specialized training to perform aesthetic procedures after graduation. An aesthetician program typically takes 6-7 months. It is not uncommon for a nurse to become an aesthetician to expand her skill set or to “get her foot in the door” to work in cosmetics. And just the same, many aestheticians later choose to become a nurse to offer additional treatments such as injectables like toxins or filler.
What is the cost of the aesthetics program?
•The total program cost is $10,400 (updated 6/26/23 for inaugural class). This includes enrollment fees, books, individual make up kits, products and tools used throughout the program. The only additional charge is professional liability insurance that one is required to obtain and hold throughout the duration of the program. This is approximately $75.00 per year. You will see that the cost of aesthetics programs in surrounding counties range from approximately $10,800 to $18,000. Our cost was carefully considered and developed to allow Bloom to offer quality, professional machines and products under the instruction of highly qualified individuals.
